Sorry, but it’s time for a little provincialism.

It’s an Opening Day in Major League Baseball that is different from any in years.  Yes, it’s the first day for the Chicago Cubs on their way to their first World Series Championship in 107 years!

OK, we’re jumping the gun a little.  And sure, it can be considered a jinx to state such lofty expectations.  But the hell with it.  We long-suffering Cubs fans have had our fill of jinxes.  Bring it on!

Our company is based in suburban Chicago, in a quaint little town called Geneva. Most of our employees and their families have been lifelong Cubs fans.  So we’re going all-in for a championship this year.  So, sorry if we’re being a little provincial here.

We long-suffering Cubs fans have had our fill of jinxes.  Bring it on!

In that spirit, we heartily embrace the “This Year IS Next Year” charity t-shirts being promoted by writer and publicist Karen Carlson.

Year after year, many a weary Cubs fan has walked away from Wrigley Field muttering, "Well, wait till next year."

After a World Series drought lasting more than a hundred years, Carlson and her husband came up with a slogan they hope will become the battle cry for the 2016 season "This Year IS Next Year ™."

"There's no more waiting till next year," said Carlson.  "As far as we're concerned, we are making this THE year.  Since this is Opening Day, let us all say 'Happy Next Year' to Cubs fans!"

She and her friends have been wearing the shirt around other Cubs fans, including at Spring Training in Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona, and have been receiving rave reviews for the shirt.  "But while Cubs fans smile when they see the shirt and wonder where they can get it, fans of other teams just stare at it quizzically.  The obviously just don't get it!" she joked.

A portion of all sales will go to charity.  "We have charities in several parts of the country, including Chicago,Seattle and Southern California," said Carlson, an Emmy-Award winning journalist and recognized philanthropist.

"We just hope #ThisYearISNextYear becomes the new hashtag on social media and Cubs fans everywhere can embrace a new slogan for what is sure to be an amazing season!"
