Steering Committee Elected
CSCC members have elected a Steering Committee, which will provide overall management of CSCC, set priorities and directions, approve working groups and vote on white papers and other deliverables that come from CSCC. Melvin Greer, Senior Fellow and Chief Strategist, Cloud Computing, Lockheed Martin who had been acting as interim chair, was elected as chair of CSCC steering committee. Initial members include AGEECC, CloudOne, Cutter Consortium, IBM, Itron, Kaavo, Lockheed Martin, Servoy, Software AG, SurePass, Symantec, and Wohl Associates. Additional nominations are still being received to complete the Steering Committee.

"Lockheed Martin is pleased to be leading the CSCC steering committee and is committed to raising awareness and increasing cloud computing adoption through the development and delivery of a variety of materials that express the cloud end user point of view," said Melvin Greer, senior fellow and chief strategist, Cloud Computing, Lockheed Martin; and chair, CSCC steering committee.

Working Groups approved
The CSCC Steering Committee approved the following Working Groups:

  • Practical Guide to Cloud Computing, led by Melvin Greer, Lockheed Martin
  • Service Model working groups including: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS); Software as a Service (SaaS); and Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  • Interoperability in the Cloud
  • Cloud Reference Architecture
  • Business Patterns for the Cloud
  • Legal Considerations for the Cloud
  • Social Business Cloud Standards
  • Industry-related working groups focusing on Cloud Requirements, including: Education, Financial Services, Government, Retail and Telecommunications

The Working Groups have started their discussions. To contribute to the above activities, one must be a member of the Cloud Standards Customer Council (www.cloud-council.org/application). If you are already a CSCC member, use this link (http://cloud-council.org/workinggroups.htm) to join the Working Groups.

After soliciting cloud use cases from the membership, the first submissions have been posted online and are available to the public. These use cases and subsequent submissions will be used to help inform the working groups in their efforts. Use cases drive the requirements and priorities that CSCC will deliver to standards organizations, and also help the working groups determine best practices for cloud computing implementation as well as form the basis for the cloud computing case study awards program. The use cases are published at http://cloud-council.org/uc.htm.

In a separate announcement, the CSCC appointed Andrew Watson, vice president, OMG as Liaison Officer to work directly with a number of cloud Standard Development Organizations.
