Producer Prices increase slightly

PPI increases 0.1% in July, following June’s 0.4% increase.

The seasonally-adjusted Producer Price Index for final demand increased 0.1% in July, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.  This followed a 0.4% increase in June.

The increase was in line with analysts’ expectations.

In the 12 months through July, producer prices increased 1.7%.

The major elements of the change in PPI were reduced energy costs offset by higher food prices.

Producer prices excluding volatile food and energy costs increased 0.2%, and for the last twelve months have risen 1.6%.
