There is a perception that privately held companies tend to be more nimble, more entrepreneurial and more focused on the longer term than their publicly traded counterparts. If this is the case, then following a protracted downturn, such enterprises might also be expected to be among the first to experience recovery. In fact, these privately held companies might be counted on to help pull a lackluster economy out of recession. Experience seems to be bearing out these hypotheses.
